Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by Chris Levine; Schön Magazine Issue no.11 |
This weekend the whole of Britain will be commemorating the 60 years of reign by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. What a milestone! To celebrate the occasion, the frenzied retailers in the UK have yielded some of the most novel tokens, trinkets, and memorabilia. I was walking around the humble Bridge Street in Peterborough today and all I saw was the Queen's face plastered and every imaginable surface, and even though the it has broken yet another threshold of kitsch, I think we can forgive and enjoy the novelty of it all. I've only realised that my mother has succumbed to the national jubilation by bringing out our Union Jack embroidered throw pillows.

Ta-dah! I think we got it from Past Times, although they don't seem to do it anymore. |
The month of June is usually saved in our calendars to celebrate the Philippines' Independence Day, but since I am also a Brit, the patriotic sentiments have doubled in the Ventura household and I am all the happier for it. Take a look at some of the best Diamond Jubilee inspired items I have found and loved online. I can only wish I found a copy of Geri Halliwell's infamous Union Jack dress to wear this weekend. If all else fails, tomorrow as I hit the streets of Leeds, I'll be on a mission to find a crown. Long live the Queen!

How will you be celebrating this weekend? Sadly for me I will be spending most of tomorrow packing up my things and moving out of my Leeds home. However, apparently some of my dad's friends will be having a little bbq luncheon on Sunday, so I'll probably head there. Food and drinks for all! Maybe I'll bake some Union Jack frosted cupcakes, but so long as there is Pimms being served, I'll be a happy bunny. Have a good one folks!
