It appears that I'm coming in late in the game, but my god- what a find! This sister pair of balms from Dior have been nothing but impressive, I'm kicking myself for not having used it before! Created back in the 1960s, these cult beauty products have been (so it appears) staples in the industry as super performers.

Crème de Rose is a gorgeous lip balm, with an anti-ageing complex made with Rose of Damas oil, Vitamins A and E and Shea Butter. It does sound traditional, yes. However- unlike most rose salves that come off either greasy or too overpowering with fragrance, this silky balm goes over the lips sheer as a petal. Moisturises and nourishes without being too claggy or glossy. It apparently offers subtle lip plumping, which I have noticed, but I'm putting that down to the fact that well hydrated lips will always look plump ANYWAY. The balm comes in a very dainty pot- almost a little too minimalist coming from Dior, but as the old adage goes, 'great things come in small packages'. In CdR's case, it's a time-tested, no BS beauty product that works, even without all the bells and whistles. I know I have waxed lyrical about another lip treatment in the past, but Dior's offering comes as a very serious threat.
Dior makes sure that skin is nourished from the face down to the tips of your fingers and your tippie toes, and so it presents a sister salve in Crème Abricot. I have used many a cuticle oil in the past, even toying with the delusion that Vaseline is actually good for anything, but to my dismay, my cuticles remained testy. Sometimes a hand creme is just not enough. Thankfully, I found Dior's answer to my prayers. At first I was a little apprehensive- another nail cream? yeah right..., but after much cajoling and a LOT of positive and convincing remarks from friends and girls from various counters (even the competition!), I gave in. This multi-purpose salve comes in the same pot as its sister lipbalm, and in a delicious shade of apricot (mais bien sur?.) The texture is very thick, almost like ointment-meets-melted-marshmallow, rich in lanolin and glycerin. Make sure to use sparingly because you don't need much AT ALL. The fragrance is subtle, almost undetectable really. But the proof! Well. The first time I used it, I had just given myself a manicure the day before. In my job, I have to wash my hands and sanitize it so many times during the day, my nails suffer badly. I dabbed a little bit of Creme Abricot on my cuticles, massaging it in thoroughly and after a few hours, my nails and cuticles look a LOT better. I have yet to attest to its nail fortifying claims, but so far so good. It sinks in quite well, and the formula creates a kind of barrier so the skin stays protected even after a couple of handwashes. It obviously then makes sense to massage this liberally at night to further intensify the treatment, which I have done and have been pleased by. I've also tried it on my toes and little dry patches like my elbow (yes, I forget sometimes...) and it works just the same. I'm convinced!
In short, Dior's twin salves get two thumbs up from me! However, personally- I have grown a little more fond of one of the two sisters. I'm sure you can guess which one ;) Also, I got the title in mind and got inspired! Nothing too Dickensian about it though...except for maybe, that these two are a reflection of each other. Same purpose, different locations. That's just about as literal as I can get.
