Rarely do I ever buy something because of its pretty packaging.
(........somewhere out there, a fairy just dropped dead.......)
Okay, fine. That's a lie. I DO BUY PRODUCTS FOR THEIR PACKAGING. There. I said it. I like the bells and whistles okay?
I may well have been a cat in another life because I gravitate towards the shiny and the pretty. Which then explains why it doesn't come as a shock that I got myself one of Guerlain's BEAUTIFUL tins of glow power. Yup. I got me some Meteorites!
As a direct result of a rather stressful month, Meteorites found itself in my basket during a serious episode of retail therapy. I needed to heal, and heal I do best. £££ later, I was in my bedroom taking inventory of what made me extremely happy and out came Guerlain as the top joy giver. When the Spring/Summer collection was launched, it included your usual spring pinks and corals, but this gorgeous filigree trinket box was the one that caught my eye. A little more on the actual contents in a bit, but let me just wax lyrical about the damn box! The ornate tin looks like something out of a Jean Harlow boudoir scene; with its detailed, Oriental scalloped floral-motif and pretty pastel pink enamel touches. The box now sits nicely atop my vintage dressing table, surrounded by perfume bottles and rouge- all I need are lights, a feather boa, and ropes and ropes of pearls and I would have a dressing table fit for any of the Ziegfield Follies!
I was apprehensive at first because I tend to steer away from anything too pearlescent or too highlight-y because I don't like what they do to my pores. However, I was reassured by my two favourite Guerlain advisors that Meteorites isn't necessarily a tin of shimmer pearls. They are little pearls of colour correcting face powders, enchanced with diamond dust (or what they call 'Stardust Technology') a light reflecting polymer that gives radiant finish to the skin- creating more of an optical halo as opposed to giving that high-shine JLo, highlighted look. The pearls come in four different shades (blanc de perle- which is the general radiance boosting set tone, clair, medium and doré- for specific light, medium and dark skin tones) and I chose to go with Medium. The colour corrective technology comes from the selection of coloured pearls; mauve for sallowness, yellow for redness, peach (pink) for dullness- and when mixed together with a face brush, the light technology imparts all of those properties onto the skin therefore creating that radiant halo.
When doing my make-up, I prefer to leave Meteorites as the final touch to my look. After I've set my make-up and powdered the areas I want to mattify, I just swish my brush in the tin and sweep across my forehead, top of my cheekbones, bridge of the nose and chin to lift those areas. I guess, that's where the confusion of using the pearls as a highlighter would come from because that's how you would use one, but the finish is softer and actually not pearlescent at all. It gives more of a 'soft-focus' effect, AND as an added bonus- they smell of Parma Violets (YUM!). So if you're looking for a complexion perfector- or rather, the perfect finishing touch, this may be a great product for you.
The tin retails at £37.50 and you can purchase it here.
