'Please sir, I want some more!" was the overall consensus from the attendees at Marc Jacobs' show this week. Hands down, this collection was one of the craziest and most flamboyant collections shown in New York, and only adding to the buzz was a current revelation that the designer had cast underage models in the show. I will leave that moral debate to the CFDA. The collection on the other hand, spoke for itself and it was heard loud and clear. With the first model coming onto the runway, the tone was set by the ridiculously oversized fur hats by Steve Jones. It was part Dickensian, part Mad-Hatter and part Willy Wonka. How much more creative and convoluted can you get? The silhouette was a play in proportions, layering chunky knits over tweed coats lined with fur- a key feature of the collection, and the colours did not fail to match the tone of the show. Amidst the dark muted teals, navy, black and grey were bright pops of vermilion, mustard, and fuschia. The prints were also as psychedelic as the designer, and heavy too, from colour-clashing paisleys to florals. Textures were also mixed and match- from woven leather to its reptilian relative, brocades, silks, tweeds and fur. Never the one to disappoint or ruffle a few feathers, Jacobs once again establishes himself as one of the most creative geniuses in the industry.
