LabSeries: Max LS Age-Less Face Cream and Overnight Renewal Serum (Review)

The men's skincare range was foreign territory and I had no clue where to begin. I hadn't ventured into it, not because it didn't appeal to me- it did, but it was mainly because of a debate on just how different it is to the usual skin care products you see on the market. I had once asked a consultant at a counter what the difference is between the normal ranges and the men's, and she told me that basically, apart from male-centric targeted products such as razor relief, tougher pre-shave exfoliants and so and so, these products just have less ingredients. Surely unless the laboratories and the market specify products by gender, these products should be suitable to (quite literally) all skin types? Whatever. Point is, I've always thought about it and I decided to finally go down this route out of curiosity.   For the more savvy beauty folks out there, I would love to hear some feedback on this by the way- but for now in my head I thought, men's skincare is as straight forward as they come.

Enter LAB Series. I do come across this range on my regular beauty trips around wherever and so I'm familiar with the scope of brand.  Plus on the website it says 'High Tech. High Performance. Skincare for Men. Only'. Well alright then. I found a value travel pack in London that had both serum and face cream in it, and so on an impulse I went for it. It's formulated for all skin types, and right now, since my skin is having a dilemma on whether it wants to stay Combination or Dry, it was the ideal choice. I gave myself four weeks to try it out, all the while reserving judgement, and now the time has come for the verdict! Let me just give you some info from the brand itself regarding this range.

Max LS Age-Less Face Cream, £49.00 (50ml)
"Be Age-Less. Reclaim your younger looking skin. Powered by Sirtuin technology and the science of skin cell longevity, the Molecular Age-Less Complex in Max LS helps erase the signs of aging, in a highly advanced daily moisturizer."

Max LS Age-Less Overnight Renewal Serum, £43.00 (30ml)
"Reclaim your younger looking skin with this intense overnight renewal serum inspired by Sirtuin technology and containing the same Molecular Age-Less Complex as MAX LS Age-Less Face Cream."

So after four weeks, here's my verdict:

PROs:
- Packaging. It's futuristic and very clinical- definitely an aesthetic that would appeal to the average Joe. The perspex-y gloss and sheen won me over.
- Consistency. The consistency of the serum is similar to Lauder's Advanced Night Repair, which I love. It's silky, water veil texture means its easily absorbed by the skin and it gives it that surge of moisture after cleansing and toning. As for the face cream, the texture was creamy enough (I like a semi-rich consistency) and not too emollient. Doesn't sit on top of the skin and the finish is non-greasy.
- Technology- It's got Sirtuin technology in the forefront, which basically means- it's supposed to put a halt on the aging process and slow down the cells, hence the longevity.

CONs:
- Packaging. I know I said I love it, but on the flipside, the beautiful packaging is a little heavy and big. Not ideal for travelling (unless you dram and decant in travel pots ofc.) Also, it gives an impression of good volume when in fact, these come in standard sizes. My issue is mainly with the serum's pump bottle actually. It's double encased and its not easy to gauge whether you're running low or not. It feels full but it may well be the bottle's weight.
- Serum Pump. It's not a good dosage pump in my opinion. For my face I would need 2-3 pumps, which is one pump too many for my liking.

CONCLUSION
Overall, I liked it. For my first foray into men's skincare, these products didn't disappoint. However, I didn't particularly think that it was vastly different from what I used before (a mixture of Estee Lauder, Clarins, and La Roche-Posay), so on the whole 'men-specific' front, I give it a meh. Would I buy these again? Perhaps. I liked the Serum very much, partly because it's similar to ANR but it just felt lovely on my skin. Even on its own, I felt the surge of moisture on my skin and in no time at all. Barring the packaging and pump issue, I would definitely purchase again. As for effect- I'll have to use it a while to really see a major difference, but in the four weeks that I've used it, I must say that apart from that immediate hydration and tautness upon application, I don't see that much of a difference. Bearing in mind that it's not a wrinkle cream or a lifting and firming one, I would say that it's a good all-around maintenance and preventative product, and so the fact that my skin hasn't changed drastically may be a positive. The face cream however left me wanting more. It's wonderful when you first put it on- velvety but not greasy, which for a rich cream can be a tricky balance. I don't doubt the technology at all, but after a few hours, my skin would feel thirsty and dry. I wear make-up almost everyday and I work in an air-conditioned environment so partly, the dryness can be attributed to that. But with the moisturiser that I used prior to LS, it wasn't so much of an issue (I even used it on two 16-hour flights and my skin didn't experience dehydration.)

I'm giving the Serum a 4/5 and the Cream 3/5.

  1. Nice review! Now I'm convinced I should try this. Where could you get these? I'm looking for a good face cream based on the ingredients in the list in this website but I'll definitely give this one a try. hyft4h56
