It was a dramatic comeback for Helmut Lang after a five year hiatus from the catwalk. Manned by the Colovos husband-and-wife duo of Michael and Nicole, the collection was shown at Pier 57, on a multi-lane runway. The clothes were graphic and stark in a swatch of black, white and yellow, accentuated by the architectural platforms designed by Alejandro Ingelmo.
However, just as Yin cannot exist without Yang, the Colovos' juxtaposed the sharpness with soft, and gossamer drapery and the sporadic paint brush stroke. The overall feel was post-Millennium glamour with a touch more Metropolitan polish. Perhaps the most 'New York' out of all the collections so far, Helmut Lang reminds us of what we have missed so dearly.
