Organic Sound

HMV Oak Case 109 Gramophone No4 Voice Box
I have no idea when it finally hit me but the need to acquire a gramophone has finally come to a peak. Maybe it was after watching that really creepy scene in Insidious, where the little boy ghoul switches on Tiny Tim's cover of 'Tip Toe Through The Tulips' (*shivers*! it's so damn creepy!) or after listening to swing music and the scratches on Christina Aguilera's Back To Basics album countless times, I don't know...but I have come to the final conclusion that I want one. And not just any old deck either. I want the real McCoy, with massive brass horn and all! (...that is, if I can find one)

There's just something timeless about them you know? Plus, I have always loved listening to records when I was younger. Whenever I peruse around vintage stores and antique shops, there are records everywhere too, so then I finally thought, wouldn't it be nice to wake-up to - I don't know, let's say the original recording for My Fair Lady on the gramophone complete with the scratches and that grainy quality for an authentic sound? Never mind the fact that it would make for a fantastic home decor and conversation starter piece! My sister may have been right when she said I am getting older and regressing too far and too soon. Just can't help it! Spotify would never give you that listening satisfaction, nor would the latest and most high-tech of all speakers! Swing music wouldn't sound right. I feel like I wouldn't achieve that genuine emotional empathy and reaction to Nina Simone if I dont play a record on the deck.

Maybe if I stay good and pray enough times, Father Christmas would give me one for the holidays!
xoxo
