It was like Christmas morning when I woke up today. That is, if Santa regularly rings the front door and asks for my dad's signature in return for the treasure parcels. Nevertheless, these beautiful, gilded chocolate compacts came and I went from groggy morning grump to wonderful and chirpy. I really should take a page out of Linda and say I won't get out of bed for less than $10,000, but since I don't have that kind of commanding power just yet, I shall settle for Tom Ford's premium beauty.
Now, Tom has a selection of six cheek colours, and out of them I chose these three because they are the best colours that suit my colouring the best IMO. I obviously had to see them in person first, so after months and months of deliberation, I made the move and got the three that I wanted.
From Left to Right: Flush, Love Lust, and Frantic Pink. I couldn't help myself. I had to swatch it, hence the mark on no.2. -.- |
Firstly, can we talk about the
packaging? How GORGEOUS are these little compacts?? In classic Tom Ford
style, the cases come in a lacquered chocolate colour and gilded with
gold for a wonderfully opulent touch. No gimmicks or too gaudy of a
compact, just to the point, classic and chic. Très chic! The compact has a mirror which is good, but no brush- but this actually doesn't bug me as much. I end up throwing the brushes that usually come with cheek colours, purely because I don't think they are good enough or necessary. Blush isn't really something you would touch up during the day in my opinion, so all the better. The
powders come with the TF logo embossed at the centre of each square-
again, no frills, just Tom. As if he needs anything else apart from his
name right? There is nothing better than a big ego and the genius to
back it up.
The cheek colour have a creamy consistency for a powder. Not
quite gelée but rich enough that it glides and blends on the skin like a
cream blush. They are rich in pigment but not garishly so, and the
colour selection complementary to all skin tones. You can definitely
build up the intensity but I was surprised at how impressively wearable
they all are, considering Tom's penchant for OTT colour punches! The
powders also have a touch of pearl on all of them to help bring out the
flatness that normal blushers give, bringing life to the skin.
Flush, Love Lust and Frantic Pink |
Flush is a gorgeous coral pink, the perfect accompaniment to the last of the summer tans. Love Lust is a wonderful apricot blush, ideal for that barely there hint of colour. More of a healthy glow than cosmetic I would say, but obviously this will depend on how you wear your blush. I always like to reiterate Lisa Eldridge's mantra of make-up looking more professional when it is seamless and undetectable. That's normally how I approach my everyday look so for me, I go for the healthy glow rather than a 'blushed-on' effect. Finally, Frantic Pink is a very pearlescent mid-tone pink, which actually to me looks like it would make for a great highlighter. It's the lightest of the six colours, and judging by the iridescence, I think this would suit atop the cheek bone instead of across. However if you are quite fair, it would look great as an pretty rosy colour for that English rose look.
Have you tried Tom's cosmetics yet?
