When it was announced that Nicole Kidman was to be the new face of Jimmy Choo, the first thought that crossed my mind was, 'Woop! She can wear heels again!'. Of course this was in relation to the fact that the whole time she was married to Tom Cruise, she never wore heels that towered her crazy ex-hubby. Then I thought, hang on a second- what will the ads look like? The last couple of years have seen Victoria's Secret-esque ads from Jimmy Choo, and although I am fully aware that Nic is capable of sexy- anything close to fetish isn't a good colour on her (remember that GQ 2009 cover? Eeek.)

Paris Menswear S/S13: The Man Sandal, Hot or Not?
Every summer season there is one item of 'fashion' that I dread to see from the catwalk and life alike. The man sandal. I don't know about you, but I never thought they were fashionable nor should they be at all. Like with all things art, clothing is subject to personal preference and for me, I have always opted for shoes. There are different kinds for different seasons, and if the heat finally gets too blistering to bear I would change into flip-flops, but that is it- I choose one or the other. Wooyoungmi's strappy pair aren't actually that bad, but the rest...? I have never been a fan of the sandals because they just strike me as an ugly hybrid borne of a want of something in between slipper and shoe, and while for ladies the sandals come in more aesthetically pleasing incarnations, the male versions just remain unattractive and totally unbecoming. Perhaps part of the reason why I find them unappealing is that, apart from models who probably get mani/pedis before a show, Joe Blogg's feet tend to be either vainly ignored or too hairy, or ultimately just not visually elegant enough to pull off public showcase. These sandals, even Givenchy's metallica pair just evoke a horrible image of the summer dad stereotype- the kind who goes with you to the beach wearing a hideous Hawaiian print shirt, cargo shorts and these sandals...with socks. I think that's a fashion crime, and whenever designers try to sell it as a must have piece of footwear I just think, 'Do people actually buy them?!', and if they do I'm just left bemused. Plus, think of how severely unflattering they are. Even the most lean of legs face the danger of looking like they have cankles. But hey, that's just me. Even though I would dread wearing them, I would choose a pair of Toms any day over these foot-harnesses.
How do you feel about them?

Hello darlings! I apologize for the massive delay on posts :(
That I can blame on a misture of tardiness, and a pile of uni work which is only worsened by even more tardiness! Perhaps it is true what they say about winter blues? Once it hits you, it hits you pretty badly. Not that I'm turning into the next Asian Sylvia Plath or anything like that, but you know when you just cannot be bothered to do anything? It certainly does not show me in the brightest of lights but I'm sure as a student, you can empathise. You can only work so much and then you burn out right when work needs to press on. But enough about my woes... (they really are rather trivial), today, I did what every broke student fashionista does when they get a dose of ennui...I went shoe-window shopping online. Yes. It's like driving a stake through my heart, but at the same time, I was comforted by their mere presence. Right there on my screen. Screaming for me to click 'Put in Basket'.
I guess you could say I am having a major case of the Chelsea/Pistol Boot fever because as you can see from my soon-to-be shoe cupboard inventory, most of the pairs I am loving at the moment are either one or the other. I still have a soft spot for velvet slippers and the ubiquitous Oxfords, but these boots are just....
...they need love. All the love I can give.
Obviously, Jeffrey West is one after my own heart, since most of the boots I fancied are his....but I 'shuffled' them in the collage as to not make it THAT much obvious..
In any case, whether it is like giving an addict a shot of fatal acid, or giving an aspiring Carrie Bradshaw an aspirational cheat sheet, you just can't help but feel hot and bothered over these beautiful pairs. Perhaps it'll have to be aspirational for a tiny bit longer for me, unless I get started and find husband numero uno soon.
Lots of love, and stay tuned for more posts over NYFW, LFW and this weekend's Four Continents Championships with my seasonal Mao Asada updates!
Much love,
